All participants are responsible for reserving their own airline tickets, hotel rooms, food, and car rental. HPC members will help provide fellowship and car-pooling, particularly when 4-WD vehicles are needed. If a shared ride is needed, please indicate on registration form. We will ask everyone to sign a form that releases liability to clubs in case of accidental injuries.

Friday, Nov. 6. Fly into Hilo at around 4 p.m.

Option 1: Hike to active lava flow at Kalapana; gate opens at 5 p.m.; must be healthy & in good physical condition; bring sturdy, covered shoes & flashlight (Steve Godszak in charge). We will meet in Hilo at Hilo Hawaiian Hotel at 4 p.m. and car-pool.

Option 2: Black & white night in Hilo and East Hawaii Cultural Center Fall Festival opening (Anubhav in charge).

Saturday, Nov. 7

Option 1: At sunrise, visit Halemaumau Crater; there is an active vent located there; may need Park passes. Later, visit Volcanoes National Park. Will meet up with Group in Option 2 for lunch at Volcano House at 12 noon, and then continue to photograph the Park.

Option 2:
Sunrise Lava boat tour; approximately $100 (depends on group size); leaves from Pohoiki at 5:45 a.m.; warning: seas may be rough and there is a health risk of breathing in toxic fumes; contact Susan Miyasaka if interested & she will make arrangements. Could meet up with Group in Option 1 for lunch at 12 noon at Volcano House and then continue to photograph Volcanoes National Park together.

Option 3:Workshop on Photographing "The Nude in Nature" by Kathleen Carr; held near Hilo, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (6 hours); $175 per person (includes model fee plus higher fee for Kathleen to travel to Hilo). Meet at 10 a.m. at the Komohana Agricultural Complex (875 Komohana St.) for a presentation by Kathleen & then travel by car (@ 10 minutes) to nearby secluded location for photo shoot. We need a minimum of 6 participants or this workshop will be cancelled. A maximum of 10 photographers will be allowed. Susan Miyasaka is in charge of logistics for this workshop.

6:00 p.m. – 9 p.m.: Keaau Fine Arts Gallery AT exhibit opening. Pot-luck, bring a dish to pass. CCCH annual meeting. (This is in lieu of a Banquet.)

Sunday, Nov. 8. Fly out of Hilo in late afternoon around 4 p.m.

Alternative A: Sunrise at Waipio Valley. There are locked gates now. Jeff Ikeda knows someone who will open gates for us; need 4WD vehicles. This is an all-day photo shoot (Jeff in charge). We will meet at Hilo Hawaiian Hotel at 5 a.m. and car-pool.

Alternative B: If it's too rainy, then it's not possible to cross the stream in Waipio Valley. Our alternative outing will be to visit Mauna Kea (Jeff will make decision on Saturday night at AT Exhibit opening).

• Option B-1: Drive along Mana Road to Waimea (need 4WD vehicles);


• Option B-2: Visit summit (warning: high altitude sickness; need 4WD vehicles);


• Option B-3: Joy is willing to lead a hike on Pu'u O'o trail off Salile Road; need covered, sturdy shoes.
